Actifio Strengthens Its Data-as-a-Service Vision with App-Centric Approach in the Multi-Cloud and DevOps Era
Actifio’s 2018 customer and partner conference was named “Data-Driven.” The name will remain for our 2019 conference (Boston in June) because we know that every enterprise in or moving to multi-cloud strategies starts with data challenges. How to manage it. How to migrate it. How to move it among cloud providers. How to accelerate analytics and assure protection. We have seen it in every customer engagement. Attendees at the conference confirmed it. Effective data management strategies are essential to extracting data value, and Actifio has become a vital component of that strategy for many major enterprises.
Today, Microsoft Azure announced a brand new storage tier, Ultra SSD, which delivers extreme performance for critical applications such as SAP HANA, MS-SQL, and other databases. Some salient features are:
This customer was protecting over 70TB of VMs, physical clusters, and SAP HANA. The SAP HANA environment was over 300GB and growing rapidly. The customer was using IBM TSM for data protection and struggled with high RPO and RTO. Backups took too long and they were unable to deliver timely data recovery, which lowered confidence and increased data risk.
The customer was also using multiple point tools which increased complexity. Since the environment was expected to grow rapidly, this organization wanted a solution that would simplify their data protection strategy, lower capital and operational costs while reducing data risk by improving RPO and RTO.
Apotex, a global pharmaceutical company, had no toleration for downtime. Applications needed to be up and running, data protected. Rapid recovery from any system failure was essential. But they were encountering unacceptable data backup and recovery times - as much as 14 hours for backups and equal time to recover if a problem occurred. A broad search for solutions proved that Actifio was the “disruptor” that could deliver backups and recovery in 30 minutes or less. And it provided extensive additional capabilities in support of DevOps, analytics and cloud services.
